High-Tech Security for Ambala Cantonment: 485 AI-enabled CCTV Cameras to Be Installed by Haryana Minister

The Haryana government has rolled out a cutting-edge security system in Ambala Cantonment to clamp down on criminals and provide a secure environment to its citizens, as reported by an official release. Home and Health Minister Anil Vij made this decision after continuous efforts to fulfill the commitment.

Aiming for a seamless Smart City Security, the advanced system is equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and facial recognition. As soon as the face of a suspected criminal or terrorist matches with the given sketch and photos, this system will issue an alert. The cameras will be connected via optical fibre cable and its working will be monitored under CCTV control.

This endeavor will include the installment of 485 CCTV cameras in Ambala Cantonment at 143 locations. 265 of these cameras will be placed in Ambala Cantt police station’s 67 locations, whereas 83 cameras will be set up in Padav police station’s 34 locations and 137 cameras will be installed in Maheshnagar police station’s 42 locations. All of the cameras are HD night vision enabled cameras making it easier to capture unlawful activities.

At the discussion today with IG Sibash Kabiraj and SP Jashnadeep Singh Randhawa, Home Minister Anil Vij said that CCTV cameras will cover all areas of the Ambala Cantonment to strengthen the surveillance. Furthermore, the traffic management of the cantonment is expected to improve with the installation of the cameras at Jagadhri. There will also be sensors to detect the traffic density and adjust the light timer accordingly.

The statement from officials also suggests that the CCTV cameras will judiciously monitor the speed of vehicles by issuing challans directly to the address if any vehicle is found to be overspeeding.

Ambala Cantonment is a major stronghold to the Army and Air Force apart from being a connecting station to many states due to its extensive railway network. Thus, the CCTV cameras will ensure the security of the citizens in Ambala Cantonment by keeping a close watch on criminals.

This project was possible due to the joint efforts of Home Minister Anil Vij, IG Sibash Kabiraj, and SP Jashnadeep Singh Randhawa. The CCTV control room will be established in Ambala Cantonment Police Station and all activities will be monitored from there. The recordings from the cameras will be stored in the hard drive for backup.

Anil Vij is the Haryana’s Home and Health Minister since November 2014. Since then he has been an inspiration to many and has contributed significantly towards the betterment of the society. He is an active member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and previously served as the Cabinet Minister in the year 2000 – 2005. Under his benevolent leadership, Ambala Cantonment has received cutting-edge security system and improved traffic management system.

IG Sibash Kabiraj is the Inspector General of Ambala Range. He is popularly known for his distinctive style of working and an impressive judgment record. He is credited with the success of the security system installation in Ambala Cantonment.

SP Jashnadeep Singh Randhawa is the well-known Superintendent of Police in Ambala. He is a trusted police officer with a respectable career history. Previously he served as the SSP of Yamunanagar and Fatehabad Districts. Under his supervision, the security system installation of Ambala Cantonment was successful.
