Government Prioritizes Healthcare Industrial Sector Development, Focuses on Medical Technology Innovation
The Indian Government is placing significant importance on the development of the healthcare industrial sector within the country, with a particular focus on driving innovation in medical technology. This emphasis was highlighted by Industries Minister P. Rajeeve, who spoke at the healthcare industry excellence award ceremony during the ‘Hospex Health Care Expo 2023′.
In line with the government’s commitment to the growth of the healthcare industry, the recently published Industrial Policy 2022-2023 outlines 22 priority sectors. These include medical devices, pharmaceuticals, Artificial Intelligence, bio data analysis, robotics, blockchain technology, electronics, hygiene, and tourism. The interconnectedness of these sectors with healthcare reinforces the government’s dedication to advancing the overall health industry.
Minister Rajeeve also announced the initiation of a program led by the Industries Department to establish Campus Industrial Parks in collaboration with the Higher Education Department. This partnership aims to strengthen research and biotechnology in medical equipment and provide students with valuable project experience through internships and part-time jobs at the parks. Additionally, the industrial sector can tap into the potential of the youth by engaging them in relevant projects.
Rajeeve urged organizers to encourage the healthcare sector to establish units at the Startup and Maker Village in Kalamassery. By fostering a supportive environment for startups and innovative ventures, the government seeks to catalyze growth and technological advancements in the healthcare domain.
To honor excellence within the healthcare industry, Minister Rajeeve presented healthcare industry excellence awards. The recipients included Humblx for Best Healthcare Startup, Ease Dimentia Technologies for Best Startup for a Social Cause, PSI Healthcare for Best Manufacturer, Medtra Innovative Technologies for Manufacturing Award in the Technology Category, Minudath K B for Women Entrepreneur, Udayshankar R. for Budding Innovator, and Kiron B Reddy for Best Innovation in the Doctors’ Category.
The ‘Hospex Health Care Expo 2023’, organized by Trithvam Integris, served as a platform for showcasing leading innovations and cutting-edge medical equipment and technologies. The three-day event brought together hospitals, Original Equipment Manufacturers, startups, suppliers, and other stakeholders in the medical industry. Key partners and participants included Invest India, Kerala Start-up Mission, Kerala Medical Technology Consortium (KMTC), Indian Medical Association, Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists, Association of Medical Devices Industry, Association of Diagnostics Manufacturers of India, Nasscom, IIT Kanpur, and various incubation centers.
With these initiatives and collaborations, the Indian Government is taking substantial steps towards nurturing the healthcare industrial sector and promoting medical technology innovation. By prioritizing the development of this sector and encouraging partnerships between academia and industry, India aims to solidify its position as a leader in healthcare advancements and technological breakthroughs.
