Government employees have been issued a warning regarding the use of ChatGPT, a popular chatbot and artificial intelligence tool that generates text and images using data input. In a recent email, the head of IT at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment cautioned staff not to upload any sensitive corporate information, or to use any AI similar services in general.

To reduce the risk of such an occurrence, the Department has encouraged its staff to play around with the AI tools, and to gain an understanding on how they work in order to avoid making any mistakes when using them.
Cónal Thomas, the head of IT of the Department of Enterprise, Trade, and Employment was the one whom issued the email to staff regarding the use of ChatGPT. Thomas has been a veteran in the public sector, having previously held positions at the Department of Environment, Agriculture and Transport, as well as other institutions in the wider public sector.
Besides ChatGPT, there are many other AI services in use today. It is key that any organisations or individuals utilising AI technology understand not only what data can be collected, but also how it may be used and leveraged in the future.
