Google is turning its attention to budding artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) startups in Africa through its Startup Accelerator Africa Program, scheduled to kick off between June and September this year. This initiative aims to tackle pressing challenges and unlock fresh opportunities across the continent, recognizing the pivotal role that startups play in driving innovation, economic growth, and job creation while addressing societal issues.
Folarin Aiyegbusi, Head of Startup Ecosystem for Africa at Google, emphasized the significance of supporting the next wave of African AI innovators. The program, a three-month, equity-free virtual endeavor, will equip participating startups with mentorship, technical resources, and access to a global network of experts and investors. Since its inception in 2018, the initiative has already nurtured 106 startups, underscoring its commitment to cultivating impactful businesses across Africa.
By focusing on AI and ML, Google’s Startup Accelerator Africa Program seeks to empower entrepreneurs with the tools and guidance they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. As the program gears up for its upcoming cohort, the stage is set for a new wave of trailblazing startups to harness the power of AI and ML, driving innovation, creating opportunities, and making a lasting impact on the African continent.
