Google, the tech giant in the AI industry, has recently announced that it is rebranding its AI model, Bard, as Gemini. This move comes as Google introduces new and advanced features to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Gemini was previously available as a free tool, but Google has now introduced Gemini Advanced as a paid plan. This new plan will be accessible in over 150 countries and territories, but initially only in English.
To support the rebranding, Google is also launching a Gemini app for Android and making it available on the Google app for iOS. Android users will have the option to replace their Google Assistant with Gemini.
In a statement released on Thursday, Google unveiled the new name change and advanced features. The company highlighted that more than 1 million people are already utilizing features like Help Me Write through its Duet AI. Google plans to transition Duet AI into Gemini for Workspace, thereby enhancing productivity and creativity. Additionally, consumers with a Google One AI Premium plan will soon be able to use Gemini in popular Google applications such as Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet.
Google’s major competitor in the AI domain, OpenAI, previously announced its GPT-4 Turbo at its Developer Conference in November. This upgraded version of its flagship text-generating AI model is more powerful and cost-effective, offering both text and image analysis capabilities.
In December, Google also introduced its newest generative AI models: Gemini Ultra, Gemini Pro, and Gemini Nano. These models were designed to be compatible with various devices, including the Pixel 8. Alongside these updates, Google released Gemini Pro for Bard, enabling advanced conversations in English.
With these advancements, Google aims to provide users with more efficient and intuitive AI capabilities. The rebranding to Gemini reflects the company’s commitment to further enhancing its AI offerings to compete with industry rivals and meet the evolving demands of its global users.
