Google to Introduce AI-Powered Search Engines to Enhance Cybersecurity Measures

Google is quickly developing a completely new search engine based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities in order to compete with the popular Microsoft Bing chatbot, OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other competitors emerging in the market. Because of this, Google is also adding AI-powered features to its existing search engine. The company is calling this technology Magi, which is expected to launch in the next month.

The idea behind Magi is to provide users with a more personal search experience by accurately predicting their query and demands. Lara Levin, Google’s spokeswoman, made a statement regarding the development saying, “Not every brainstorm deck or product idea leads to a launch, but as we’ve said before, we’re excited about bringing new A.I.-powered features to search and will share more details soon.”

Reportedly, Samsung is looking to make Bing the default search engine on its mobile devices instead of Google due to its AI advancements and its moment of vulnerability. However, this would reportedly make Microsoft a $3 billion annual income while Google’s collaboration with Apple is worth approximately $20 billion.

Google has used complex language models to generate higher quality search results but did not explicitly rely too much on AI due to fears of inaccurate and biased responses. As of today, having the best AI tech for search has become extremely crucial. Last month Bard, Google’s own chatbot, was released but the reviews of its performance were inconsistent. The upcoming Magi project is the result of 160 full-time employees working to upgrade the existing search engine.

Magi will keep ads part of search results, even if the query involves buying shoes or booking a flight. Furthermore, AI can be used to provide answers regarding coding issues, but it has not been mentioned yet if there will be descriptions or ads under the subsequent code. A limited number of Google employees tested the search engine before its public launch, asking it questions for conversational purposes.

It is expected that the AI-powered features become readily available for up to 1 million users next month, then gradually rising to 30 million by the end of the year. This will only be available in the US for now. Google is also considering adding capabilities to Google Earth with AI and technologies like Searchalong, which enables users to talk with a chatbot while searching the internet.

Jim Lecinski, a former vice president for Sales and Service for Google, mentioned that the company felt forcefully pushed into action and had to show that its services are just as “powerful, competent, and contemporary” as that of its competitors.
