Google Pixel 8 Series Introduces Circle to Search Feature in January Update

Date:

The Google Pixel January 2024 Update has brought exciting new features to Pixel smartphone users. One highlight of the update is the introduction of the Circle to Search feature, which allows users to long-press the home button or navigation bar to circle items on the screen. After circling an item and tapping or scribbling on the screen, Google will provide relevant search results about the content in question. This feature will initially be available on the Samsung S24 series before rolling out to eligible Pixel smartphones on January 31.

Another notable addition is the ability to take body temperature readings using the Pixel 8 Pro. Google claims that the sensor can provide medical-grade results, pending FDA clearance. However, it is important to note that temperature readings may vary and are most accurate when done properly. The temperature ranges provided are a general guide, and users are advised to consult a healthcare provider for advice.

The January update also brings an AI-powered feature called Magic Compose to older Pixel devices (Pixel 6 and later). This feature allows users to rewrite a drafted message in different styles using artificial intelligence. While the Pixel 8 Pro model processes this feature on-device, other models rely on internet connectivity to utilize Magic Compose.

Google has made some rebranding changes as well, with the Nearby Share feature now being called Quick Share. This utility allows for fast file and media transfer between supported Android, Windows, and ChromeOS-powered devices. In addition, the company has announced that automatic audio switching and Photomoji in Messages will be rolled out for users in the near future.
