Google, Maharashtra Government Collaborate for AI-led Development
In a significant partnership, Google has announced its collaboration with the Maharashtra government to drive innovation and scalable solutions in key sectors using AI technology. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both parties will enable the government to leverage Google’s AI expertise to revolutionize areas such as agriculture, healthcare, sustainability, education, and startups.
The Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, expressed his commitment to AI-driven development and highlighted the partnership with Google as a milestone in this journey. He stated that this collaboration would empower the citizens of Maharashtra with future-ready skills, transform essential sectors like healthcare and agriculture, and create a thriving environment for AI startups through the AI Center of Excellence at IIIT Nagpur. Fadnavis emphasized that AI is the key to unlocking a prosperous, equitable, and sustainable future for the state.
Under the MoU, Google will provide mentorship, networking, and demo days to startups, connecting them with industry leaders and experts in areas such as technology, product development, and business strategy. The government will harness Google’s technology to drive progress in critical sectors like skilling, healthcare, agriculture, and sustainability.
Sanjay Gupta, the Country Head and VP of Google India, highlighted the aim of empowering citizens, creating new opportunities, fostering innovation, and bringing the transformative power of AI to the people of Maharashtra through this collaboration.
As part of the collaboration, select startups will have the opportunity to showcase their solutions to investors. Google will also support AI-focused events that aim to solve local challenges and encourage innovation within the community.
Google’s AI Startup program will provide eligible VC-funded AI startups with Cloud credits, technical training, and business support, accelerating their growth and success.
The partnership will extend to government-led skills training and education initiatives. Google will assist in launching structured high-demand skills courses owned by government organizations on YouTube, provide a train-the-trainer program for educators on its Gen AI products, and equip 500 government IT professionals with cutting-edge conversational AI skills through Google Cloud. These initiatives aim to bridge the skills gap, enhance the learning experience, and drive innovation within government services.
Furthermore, Google Cloud’s AI and machine learning technologies will be explored to develop pilot solutions for citizen queries and feedback, government scheme access, and AI-powered farmer assistance in Maharashtra.
