Google Gemini AI Coming To Search, Cloud
Google Gemini launched Wednesday, introducing the company’s highly anticipated large language model (LLM), a powerful artificial intelligence capable of reasoning across multiple formats including text, images, audio, video, and code.
The debut of Gemini brings a range of exciting advancements. Google has already begun experimenting with Gemini in its Search function, resulting in a 40% reduction in latency in English searches within the United States, providing a faster and more efficient experience for users.
Additionally, Gemini will be integrated into various Google services, such as Search, Ads, Chrome, and Duet AI. Its state-of-the-art performance relies on cutting-edge technology. From December 13th onwards, developers and enterprise customers can access Gemini Pro through the Gemini API in either Google AI Studio or Google Cloud Vertex AI.
Moreover, Google intends to license Gemini to customers via Google Cloud, enabling them to utilize the technology within their own applications. This move not only demonstrates Google’s commitment to supporting developers but also holds the potential to significantly boost the wider AI industry and improve advertising capabilities by enhancing accessibility to AI training.
Demis Hassabis, CEO and co-founder of Google DeepMind, shared in a blog post on behalf of the Gemini team, With a score of 90.0%, Gemini Ultra is the first model to outperform human experts on massive multitask language understanding, which uses a combination of 57 subjects such as math, physics, history, law, medicine, and ethics for testing both world knowledge and problem-solving abilities.
Gemini will be available in three versions: Ultra, Pro, and Nano. While Ultra caters to demanding data center requirements, Nano is designed to fit into Google smartphones. However, Gemini’s capability isn’t limited to one particular platform, as it will be compatible with various devices ranging from data centers to mobile phones. All versions offer multimodal capabilities, able to process a wide array of inputs.
Initially, Gemini will only operate in English, but Google has stated its intention to expand its language offerings in the future.
In the coming year, Google will also launch Bard Advanced, an AI experience that provides users with access to the company’s finest models and capabilities, beginning with Gemini Ultra.
Notably, Gemini’s sophisticated multimodal reasoning capabilities enable it to comprehend complex written and visual information, promising significant advancements in data analysis and decision-making.
One of the notable challenges Google faced during the development of Gemini was ensuring the technology’s safety and avoiding potential offensive elements. With the ability to handle multiple inputs simultaneously, including text and images, it was crucial to prevent any dangerous or offensive output.
