Google Joins with LLM to Scan Mobile Apps for Compliance

Date:

Checks, a privacy platform for mobile app developers, has announced that it is now a fully integrated Google product after being launched as part of Google’s in-house incubator program in 2022. Checks uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Google’s PaLM large language models (LLM) to scan Play and iOS mobile app components to identify compliance issues and generate recommendations, so developers can take actions to remediate these issues before and after launch.

This move comes during a time of rapid growth in software vendors experimenting with compliance use cases for generative AI solutions, such as data visibility provider BigID’s recently released BigAI, an LLM designed to scan and contextualize structured and unstructured data from on-premise and cloud environments.

According to Fergus Hurley, who is the co-founder of Checks, the company’s product is able to provide deeper visibility into mobile app components that are used to build modern applications, including any data that third parties may have access to. Hurley also noted that “We offer the visibility for these companies as to what’s happening with their app as a whole, not just the code that they’ve written, but all these SDKs that they depend on as well”. The Checks platform is designed to help keep user data safe, and has been designed according to GDPR regulations.

BigID and Vanta, two existing compliance vendors, do not have full focus on mobile apps and the developers that use them, which makes Checks a necessary addition as it complies with GDPR regulations and provides high quality user data security.

On July 11-12, top executives from around the world will gather in San Francisco to discuss how they are integrating and optimizing AI investments for success. Checks is proud to be part of this event and demonstrate the role of AI in providing visibility and insight into compliance-related issues that face mobile app developers.

Checks is headquartered in Austin, Texas and founded by Fergus Hurley and Justin Wehner, with the goal of providing a privacy platform for mobile app developers. With their combined decade of experience in ethical technology, engineering, privacy and security, Hurley and Wehner have created a platform that not only helps developers keep user data secure and comply with GDPR regulations, but also offers deeper visibility into mobile app components. By providing these capabilities, Checks has become a reliable partner for developers looking to protect user data.
