The three-month virtual program, now in its 8th cohort, aims to provide African startups with essential resources such as mentorship, technical support, and access to a global network of experts and investors.
Running from June to September 2024, the program is focused on startups leveraging AI and Machine Learning (ML) to address critical challenges and unlock new opportunities across the continent. Eligible startups must either be based in Africa or developing solutions specifically for the African market while utilizing AI/ML in a transformative manner.
Startups hold a significant role in shaping Africa’s future, from sectors like fintech and agritech to healthcare and education. They have been key players in driving the rapid digital transformation across the continent, fostering innovation, economic growth, and job creation while also addressing societal challenges.
Since its establishment in 2018, the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa has supported 106 startups from 17 African countries, collectively raising more than $263 million (Sh34.72 billion) and creating over 2,800 direct jobs. Google’s commitment to Africa’s tech ecosystem is evident in its support for the next generation of AI pioneers, offering resources, mentorship, and financial assistance to help entrepreneurs build successful and impactful businesses.
Participants in the program will benefit from up to $350,000 (Sh46.2 million) in Google Cloud credits, personalized guidance from Google AI experts, seasoned entrepreneurs, and industry leaders, as well as technical workshops focused on AI/ML development, product strategy, and scaling.
