Google Introduces Chromebook Plus: Boosting Productivity with AI-Powered Features and Collaborations
Google has unveiled a new line of Chromebooks called Chromebook Plus, aimed at enhancing productivity through AI-powered capabilities and collaborations. These laptops, produced by Acer, Asus, HP, and Lenovo, are designed with specific hardware requirements and have a starting price of $399.
To ensure optimal performance of productivity software and AI features, Google has set minimum hardware specifications for Chromebook Plus. These include a Full HD IPS display or superior quality enhancements.
One notable addition to Chromebook Plus devices is the inclusion of valuable video conferencing features. Users can quickly control their microphone and camera with a dedicated control panel located at the bottom of the system. Furthermore, AI-powered features such as enhanced lighting, noise cancellation, background blur, and live subtitles are accessible through an expanded menu. Additionally, automatic file syncing is enabled for Google Drive, allowing easy access to files even without an internet connection.
Google has collaborated with industry leaders Adobe and LumaTouch to provide software like Photoshop, Adobe Express, and LumaFusion, offering Chromebook Plus buyers a three-month subscription for free. Moreover, the Plus devices will also come with a complimentary three-month subscription to Nvidia’s Priority GeForce NOW tier cloud gaming service.
In line with its AI integration strategy, Google will introduce AI-powered features to Chromebook Plus, including a writing assistant capable of operating on multiple websites. Users will also be able to create AI-generated wallpapers based on prompts, which was previously announced for Android.
Chromebook Plus users can expect various updates to Google Photos, including the Magic Eraser tool for object removal, HDR, portrait blur, and automatic movie creation from photos and videos. While some of these features may eventually become compatible with other Chromebooks, Google has initially designated them as exclusive to the Plus category.
In a bid to ensure longevity and continued support for Chromebook users, Google has expanded its software updates for Chromebooks to include older devices that meet the Chromebook Plus profile, extending the offering to a 10-year period.
The initial wave of Chromebook Plus devices, priced at $399, will be available in a foldable and detachable two-in-one format. These devices are set to launch on October 8, with European and Canadian customers able to place their orders the following day.
