Google Chrome Receives Security Updates and Plans to Integrate AI Features
Google has recently released updates for its Google Chrome browser, addressing a total of 17 security vulnerabilities. These updates are available for Mac, Linux, Windows, and the Chrome browser Android app. It is crucial for users to update their browsers immediately, as some of these vulnerabilities are already being exploited.
In the stable channel, the latest version of Google Chrome for macOS and Linux is 121.0.6167.85. For Windows, the update brings the browser to version 121.0.6167.85/.86. Google has classified three of the addressed vulnerabilities as High risk, further emphasizing the need for immediate updates. Users can manually update their browser through the menu or use the automatic update function.
Additionally, the Extended Stable Channel has been updated to version 120.0.6099.268 for macOS and Windows, containing the same security fixes as the Stable Channel. The rollout will take place in the coming days.
Google Chrome for Android has also received an update, bringing it to version 121.0.6167.10. The update includes stability and performance improvements, along with the same security fixes seen on the desktop versions.
In an announcement on January 23, 2024, Google revealed its plans to introduce AI functions to the Chrome browser. Although these functions are still experimental, users will soon be able to benefit from them. The AI functions will allow for intelligent organization of tabs into tab groups, aiding in the management of multiple tasks simultaneously. To activate this feature, users can right-click on a tab and select Organize similar tabs. Chrome will suggest tab group names and emojis for easy identification.
Moreover, Chrome will introduce a text-to-image diffusion model, similar to the generative AI wallpapers introduced with Android 14 and Pixel 8 devices in 2023. This model will enable users to create custom themes based on their preferred themes, moods, visual styles, and colors. By using the Change theme command in the Customize Chrome sidebar and selecting Create with AI, users can personalize their browsing experience.
To assist users in writing confidently on the web, the next version of Chrome will introduce an experimental AI-supported function. This feature will be activated by right-clicking on a text field on any website visited in Chrome and selecting the Help me write command from the context menu. Users can enter a few words, and the AI will generate the rest. From well-written reviews to friendly responses, the AI function aims to improve the quality of text composed by users.
Google’s commitment to security through regular updates and its integration of AI features showcases the company’s dedication to enhancing the browsing experience for its users. With these advancements, users can expect improved organization, personalization, and assistance while using the Chrome browser.
