Google Bard Gaining Ground on Chat GPT in Coding, Reasoning, and Math

Date:

Google Bard is catching up with Chat GPT in terms of coding, reasoning, and math skills. According to a new official blog post from Google, Bard is receiving several key updates, including improvements to its mathematical ability, coding questions, string manipulation, logical and reasoning skills, and the ability to export tables to Google Sheets.

Implicit code execution is the technique allowing Bard to detect computational prompts and run code in the background, this is how Bard’s coding and math have been improved. Google has also implemented System 1 and System 2 thinking in the AI, combining large language models that function under the System 1 thinking while keeping traditional code under the System 2 thinking to create a more robust AI response system.

The new update to Bard will give users the ability to export tables generated by Bard in response to a user’s command to Google Sheets. While Bard was previously seen as the laughing stock of AI applications due to a botched launch, Google I/O 2023 event unveiled overhauls and new features, enabling Bard to catch up with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT is still the gold standard for AI chatbots and superior to Google Bard in coding, logic, reasoning, creativity, and more. However, since the I/O event, Google Bard has made significant progress by adding updates, tools, and features and regaining its purpose.

Google has an advantage over OpenAI in terms of resources, which include money and distribution. Google’s search has over 90% of the search market share, exposing Bard to billions of people while helping to test its responses. Moreover, integration between Google Workspace applications and Bard is more seamless, and export capabilities can be seen with Google Sheets.
