Global Music Conference ‘Your Roots Are Showing’ Set to Ignite Dundalk with Eclectic Talent and Economic Boost
From January 17 to 21, Dundalk will come alive with music as hundreds of musicians and industry experts from across the globe gather for the Global Music Conference ‘Your Roots Are Showing.’ This major event, organized by directors Charlene Sloan and Brendan McCreanor, aims to provide a platform for Irish musicians to interact with leading talent buyers and industry giants, while also bringing an economic boost to the local area.
Recognizing the need for Ireland to host its own music conference, Brendan McCreanor, an internationally acclaimed piper and musician himself, shares his inspiration behind the event. Having attended conferences both at home and in the United States, he saw the importance of having an Irish conference that covers all aspects of the music industry.
Last year’s inaugural event in Monaghan proved to be a success, necessitating a larger venue for this year’s conference. Hence, it will take place in Dundalk, with The Gateway Hotel hosting the daytime schedule of talks and panel discussions on various industry topics. Topics include showcasing, songwriting, publishing, archiving, storytelling, and the growing role of AI in music.
While the conference offers a platform for learning and networking, the evenings will be filled with electrifying performances by 25 acts each night. The lineup boasts a diverse mix of talent, including Ireland’s own Pa Sheehy of Walking On Cars, Ronan O Snodaigh from Kila, and renowned filmmaker and musician Myles O’Reilly. International acts will feature artists like Hillary Klug and Kenny Sharp from the USA, Ernest Aines from Australia, and Canadian talents Rum Ragged and Digging Roots.
Local acts will also take the stage, including Finnian, Orwells 84, and Niall McNamee. Rising star Muireann Bradley, who recently performed on Jools Holland’s Hootenanny on New Year’s Eve, will dazzle the audience with her musical prowess. The conference will also feature special guest speaker, actor Patrick Bergin, who will lend his cinematic experience to the storytelling panels.
An exciting addition to the conference is the presence of folk legend Peggy Seeger as the keynote speaker. Seeger, known for her vast experience in the industry, will share her insights with an eager audience.
The Global Music Conference ‘Your Roots Are Showing’ is not only a showcase of talent but also a catalyst for economic growth. The organizers have worked closely with BIDS and Dundalk Tourist Office to plan the event strategically, aiming to invigorate tourism and provide a significant boost to the local economy during what is typically a quieter period.
Passes for the conference are competitively priced, allowing music enthusiasts, whether they enjoy folk, trad, indie, alternative, or rock, to listen in on the talks or witness the showcase acts. With a music trail scheduled on Sunday, featuring six acts playing in six pubs in the town center, attendees will have the opportunity to experience the vibrant music scene of Dundalk.
The success of this conference is evident from the inquiries already pouring in from acts interested in participating in future events. It speaks to the impact the conference has made in such a short span of time.
The Global Music Conference ‘Your Roots Are Showing’ promises an unforgettable experience for musicians, industry professionals, and music lovers alike. With a diverse lineup, informative panels, and fantastic performances, this event in Dundalk is set to ignite the local music scene while creating economic opportunities for the community.
