Snap Inc., the company behind Snapchat, announced that My AI, it’s potentially revolutionary chatbot, is now available to all of Snapchat’s 750 million monthly users globally for free. This feature was previously limited to Snapchat+ subscribers. OpenAI’s GPT technology was used to power this chatbot, which is similar to the widely popular ChatGPT.
My AI has seen incredible progress since it’s launch in February this year, having sent nearly 2 million messages per day – in addition to learning more about the world around its users. This chatbot can be integrated with some of Snap Inc’s tools, such as chat. Furthermore, My AI also has a custom Bitmoji that can be used to hold conversations with. To use it, users can type @MyAI in a chat with a group or with a friend, and it will respond to their question. All messages can be deleted with a few clicks.
Snapchat’s My AI can leverage features from other applications, providing users with recommendations from the Snap Map, or recommending the best lenses to use. It can even send and receive Snaps. Moreover, rivaling technology giants such as Microsoft and Google are also beginning to incorporate AI-based search technology in their platforms.
In a recent interview with The Verge, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel described generative AI as a ‘awesome creative tool’, showcased through his own use of the chatbot to craft a stunning birthday itinerary for his wife, Miranda Kerr, as well as fun bedtime stories for his children. After The Center for Humane Technology aired examples of My AI misbehaving, Snap Inc. implemented safety enhancements to ensure it was compliant with the company’s community guidelines.
