Georgetown University is seeking a qualified professor to fill the McDevitt Chair in Computer Science, Ethics, and Society. The endowed professor will have a tenure-line appointment in the computer science department and a cross appointment in the program in Technology, Ethics, and Society (TES). The successful candidate will also hold a research professor appointment in the Center for Digital Ethics.
The McDevitt Chair position is part of Georgetown’s interdisciplinary initiative in technology and society and will contribute to the teaching mission of the university’s academic programs in Technology, Ethics, and Society. The chosen candidate must be eligible for an appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure in the computer science department.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computer science and a demonstrated track record of high-impact, original research. They should also have an orientation toward interdisciplinary inquiry and a distinguished teaching record. Preferred areas of research for the position include cybersecurity ethics, data privacy, artificial intelligence and society, algorithmic bias and accountability, or the social and ethical implications of emerging technologies.
