Generative AI Key for Businesses Today, Says TABC
Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) is being hailed as a game-changer for businesses, saving time and increasing productivity. According to Mondher Khanfir, Vice-president of the Tunisia-Africa Business Council (TABC), GAI operates like a machine that can process data and think like a human being. Khanfir stressed the importance of incorporating GAI into mainstream business practices to accelerate the presence of Tunisian economic operators in Africa.
During a conference held in Tunis, focused on GAI for Prospecting and Developing Trade in Africa, Khanfir highlighted the remarkable capabilities of Generative AI. He explained that traditional market research, which used to take six months, can now be completed in just three minutes with the help of GAI. This speed and efficiency revolutionize business processes and enable companies to make informed decisions rapidly.
Razi Miliani, CEO of Cogepha (Comptoir général pharmaceutique) and Vice-President of the African Pharmaceutical Distribution Association (APDA), compared Generative AI to past technological revolutions such as the printing and industrial revolutions. Miliani noted that while GAI presents immense opportunities, it also poses significant threats by potentially eliminating certain job roles.
Miliani acknowledged that the implementation of GAI has the power to replace human labor as machines become capable of performing various tasks previously assigned to individuals. However, he emphasized the importance of finding a balance between harnessing the potential of GAI and minimizing its adverse effects. Collaboration between the public and private sectors is crucial to navigating this new technological landscape and managing potential risks, such as cyber-attacks.
GAI offers a wide array of possibilities across different industries. Miliani shared examples of how GAI can streamline various processes, from developing marketing strategies to analyzing documents and photos. He even mentioned using GAI to capture photos of a warehouse and receive a comprehensive analysis and recommendations with just a few clicks. The potential time-saving benefits are significant, with the equivalent of 50 days of physical work achievable in one day with GAI.
The conference-debate on GAI for Prospecting and Developing Trade in Africa took place alongside the TABC Ordinary General Assembly and Extraordinary General Assembly. The discussions centered around the transformative impact of GAI on businesses and the need for responsible implementation to balance efficiency gains with the preservation of employment.
As GAI continues to reshape the way businesses operate, the conversations held at this conference underline the importance of proper management and collaboration for a successful integration of this groundbreaking technology. With its ability to process data and think like a human, Generative AI presents unparalleled opportunities for businesses to optimize their performance and thrive in today’s fast-paced digital world.
