Generative AI Making Engineering Prompt an Essential Field

Date:

Generative AI has revolutionized prompt engineering, making it a critical field to focus on. Sanjay Shrivastava, Chief Digital Strategist at Genpact, and his team are working with GPT-3, a large language model from OpenAI, which makes coding more efficient as it eliminates the monotony of manual coding. GPT-3 is pre-trained, reducing the need for training for various functions and it has better accuracy when writing code because it understands natural language questions.

Genpact’s programming teams use GPT-3 to work on contracts between clients and the customers, assessing the carbon footprint or assessing the supply chain management efficiency. But still it requires many manual corrections. With GPT-3, Shrivastava points out that its performance is superb, with accuracy up to 50%.

This is why prompt engineering has become an important field – because with AI systems still far from accurate, a science and art of learning to write prompts needs to be developed. Prompt engineers must learn to work with AI systems to write prompts for specific results. If, for example, someone types in “Write a poem on Mumbai”, the prompt engineer’s job is to ensure a prompt that can generate the desired result. Since language models are subject to change, so are the prompts.

At Genpact, GPT-3 and soon GPT-4 make it possible to accelerate product launches in a global market. Labelling and packaging of the product, making local forms and providing customer support in multiple languages can now happen at the same time. Additionally, GPT-3 also uses tokenisation to keep sensitive data from customers such as financial information encrypted, so that the system processes it to give more insights without leaking the details. Prompt engineers have to know which token is which to get the right results.

All in all, prompt engineering, powered by Generative AI, is a game-changer, offering many automated processes and improved services to customers. Genpact, in particular, is leveraging this technology to provide expedited global product launches and keep customer data protected. Prompt engineers are the crucial link connecting AI and humans, understanding the needs of AI systems and coding accordingly.
