Former Google executive Mo Gawdat has said that artificial intelligence (AI) is a bigger emergency than climate change and that governments should introduce a 98% tax on AI-powered businesses to pay for those who lose their jobs due to automation. Gawdat stated that the likelihood of something disruptive happening in the next two years due to AI is higher than that of climate change. Gawdat also argued for greater regulation of the technology to slow down the pace of its development. This follows the open letter calling for a six-month pause on the development of powerful AI technologies.
