The announcement was made at Eurobike 2023 in Frankfurt, Germany, where Urtopia showcased how cycling is about to become more enjoyable with the introduction of ChatGPT as a dash-integrated co-pilot. For those unfamiliar, ChatGPT is an AI chatbot that can answer user prompts, generate information, solve puzzles, write programming code, and much more. Although it has only been in existence since November of last year, it has already made its mark across various industries.
For years, people have envisioned a future where they can interact with their vehicles, whether they have two or four wheels. This future is now becoming a reality, with Mercedes being the first transportation company to announce its plans to integrate ChatGPT into the voice control system of its cars. Urtopia is following suit, becoming the first e-bike company to integrate ChatGPT into its Urtopia X model.
Despite being a relatively young company, having debuted in 2021, Urtopia has made a name for itself in the e-bike market by offering technologically advanced electric two-wheelers with features such as fingerprint unlocking, built-in GPS navigation, anti-theft protection, and proprietary safety technology. Now, with the integration of ChatGPT, Urtopia’s e-bikes are transforming into smart bikes, taking the cycling experience to a whole new level.

Dubbed the bicycle with a mind, the Urtopia X ChatGPT will offer a truly intelligent and responsive bike experience, according to Urtopia. In simpler terms, ChatGPT will enhance voice interaction between the rider and the e-bike. Previously, Urtopia’s voice-assistant technology allowed only basic interactions through simple commands related to assistance levels and lane changes. The integration with OpenAI’s chatbot opens up new possibilities, as riders can now ask their bike questions about various topics.
For example, riders can inquire about changing a flat tire, request directions to a specific location, or ask for information about their surroundings and the weather forecast. Furthermore, users can also ask the chatbot to play curated playlists through the e-bike’s built-in speaker or engage in conversation on any topic of interest.
While Urtopia has not yet announced a specific release date for ChatGPT-integrated e-bikes, the company has released a video demonstrating the technology’s functionality on its Chord e-bike.
