Finland is taking center stage at the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP28, by showcasing its climate solutions and calling for action. As a relatively small country, Finland aims to highlight its role as a leading innovator in emission-free energy and emphasize the importance of tangible climate action rather than mere words.
With ambitious climate targets, including carbon neutrality by 2035 and increased emission-free electricity production, Finland is committed to tackling climate change head-on. The country is also focused on capturing industrial carbon dioxide emissions by the mid-2030s. Finland’s efforts have made it a global leader in emission-free energy.
For the first time at COP28, Finland will have its own pavilion, hosted by Business Finland. The pavilion will bring together companies, organizations, NGOs, and ministry representatives from various sectors to discuss and accelerate the green transition. Two prominent partners of the Finland Pavilion are Outokumpu and Nokia.
Nokia, a key player in telecommunications, technology, and the industrial sectors, will highlight how technologies like 5G and AI can contribute to the green transition and help achieve net-zero emissions. Enhanced connectivity and digitalization are believed to play a crucial role in accelerating the journey to a greener future across industries.
Outokumpu, a global leader in low-emission stainless steel, is committed to the ambitious goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees. The company’s stainless steel products play a vital role in facilitating the green transition in various sectors, from basic structures to industry, mobility, and household appliances.
In addition to Nokia and Outokumpu, other partners of the Finland Pavilion include organizations such as Coolbrook, Neste, OP Financial Group, Stora Enso, and Aalto University. The pavilion will also feature speeches from NGOs and research institutes, ensuring a diverse range of perspectives.
Business Finland, in collaboration with Climate Leadership Coalition CLC and other key stakeholders, is organizing the Finland Pavilion. The pavilion’s funding comes from Business Finland and participating companies and organizations.
To enhance accessibility, a dedicated English-language COP28 website has been launched, allowing people to stream events and speeches remotely. The conference will take place in Dubai from November 30 to December 12, 2023.
Finland’s participation at COP28 underscores the country’s commitment to climate action and showcases its innovative solutions to combat climate change. By calling for action over words, Finland aims to inspire global leaders to prioritize tangible measures and accelerate the green transition on a global scale.
