The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has announced the establishment of a task force to collaborate and exchange information on enforcing EU laws on the AI chatbot, ChatGPT, produced by OpenAI. This comes after concerns were raised by several European regulators. The Italian privacy regulator initiated an investigation into the US company at the end of March and instituted a temporary ban regarding ChatGPT’s processing of personal data from Italian users due to alleged violations of laws such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
OpenAI does not have a local headquarters in any of the 27 EU countries. This means that any of the member countries’ data protection authorities can start new investigations and implement bans.
