San José State University’s Engineering Extended Studies (EES) is currently looking for qualified instructors to teach machine learning courses as part of their Off Campus and Corporate Masters Programs. This opportunity falls under the Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering, which offers SJSU Masters degrees in specialized fields such as Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Sustainable Energy Systems. As a part-time instructor, you will be responsible for teaching scheduled, online evening Machine Learning (CMPE 257) courses. The main duties include curriculum preparation, teaching courses in alignment with the department’s vision, syllabus and accessibility compliance, utilizing Canvas as the primary learning management system, reviewing and grading assignments, holding regular office hours, supporting student learning and professional development, and collaborating with the faculty and staff to promote student success. Additionally, instructors will be expected to craft course learning objectives and assessment activities to maintain accreditation.
It’s worth noting that the faculty coach member in this position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and will undergo ongoing review. Designated CSAs are required to report any Clery incidents immediately to the institution and complete Clery Act training, as determined by the University Clery Director. Compensation for this position is determined based on qualifications and experience. The salary range shown will depend on the applicable Faculty Salary Schedule – 2322 and will be paid per WTU (Weighted Teaching Unit) in Special Session programs. Please note that employment for this faculty position is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States. Satisfactory completion of a background check, including a criminal records check, is mandatory. The CSU may offer conditional employment, which can be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information or if it is discovered that the applicant misrepresented themselves. Failure to complete the background check in a satisfactory manner may affect the employment of current CSU employees who were offered the position conditionally.
The appointment for this position is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and is subject to order of assignment provisions as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association. These provisions dictate the order in which courses are assigned to faculty members, starting with tenure line faculty and ending with new lecturer appointees.
