Emmanuel Macron and Sam Altman Discuss Artificial Intelligence

Date:

On Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron met Silicone Valley businessman Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI and the brains behind ChatGPT. During the meeting, the two discussed various topics related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its future.

Emmanuel Macron put forward the idea that the French Government need to focus on developing talents and technologies related to AI while also making sure that regulations take place at both the French, European, and Global levels.

Also on the meeting schedule of the OpenAI CEO was Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki of Poland. Altman and the Polish PM discussed how to set up a research and engineering office in Europe, as well as how the impact of AI on the economy and society should be monitored. Poland has some of the most developed IT-based engineering hubs such as Alphabet Inc., JP Morgan Chase & Co., and Visa Inc. as well as developer CD Projekt SA, creator of The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077.

Meanwhile, the European Parliament is currently in talks of forming legislation regarding the use of AI. The ChatGPT boss himself told US lawmakers in a testimony that regulating AI is essential. He asserted that AI-generated generative models, developed by his company, could eventually be used to tackle world-wide problems such as climate change and curing cancer.
