Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, Inc., SpaceX, and The Boring Company, recently had an interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News. During the interview, an intriguing question arose: Could Elon Musk sue OpenAI, an artificial intelligence company that he helped to co-found, for fraud? His answer wasn’t much of a surprise, as Musk simply responded with a three-word answer: “No comment.”
The outspoken tech mogul originally invested in OpenAI, but he left after a disagreement on the direction of the company. Musk has since been critical of OpenAI due to its involvement in artificial intelligence. He even admits that its development could have potentially disastrous consequences.
In the interview with Carlson, Musk announced his plans to launch a new artificial intelligence company, ‘TruthGPT’, that will be heavily focused on seeking out truths and understanding the nature of the universe. Musk believes that OpenAI has misrepresented itself by becoming a for-profit, closed-source organization, taking the opposite direction of what Elon Musk originally intended for the company, as a nonprofit and open-source organization. As a result, Elon Musk considers OpenAI to be a fraud if all data and information remains private and proprietary.
Benny Johnson, a journalist, took to Twitter to question why Musk wasn’t taking legal action against OpenAI for the fraud. The tech mogul hasn’t outright accused OpenAI of fraud yet, and it is uncertain whether he will pursue a legal claim against the company in the near future.
As of now, OpenAI has gained traction with its chatbot ChatGPT, which has become a popular Internet sensation. Microsoft Corporation is one of its biggest investors and they have signed a pledge that OpenAI will pause its development.
Though OpenAI has made great strides in the advancement of artificial intelligence, it is equally important that discussion never stops regarding the right course of action for developing and rolling out A.I. Elon Musk’s TruthGPT should be a key rival for ChatGPT and OpenAI and is an important in the industry for setting the bar for honesty, transparency, and openness.
