Elon Musk is continuing his foray into the world of artificial intelligence with an upcoming startup backed by investors from Tesla and SpaceX. A company named X.AI Corp. was registered in Nevada in March with Musk as the director, according to a filing reported by the Wall Street Journal. This has prompted conversations amongst investors looking to get in on the startup and developing AI technology.
Musk has also taken several steps to get his venture off the ground, such as gathering AI experts and building an infrastructure with around 10,000 graphics processors. However, this only strengthen the tech mogul’s worries when it comes to AI, as he signed an open letter with the Future of Life Institute in March that called for the hold of “powerful” AI development for six months.
OpenAI’s ChatGPT bot has been an instrumental influence on tech companies concerning AI-related announcements. Microsoft released an updated Bing search engine in February with a chatbot alongside a collaboration with OpenAI while Google rolled out their own Bard Chatbot. Mark Zuckerberg of Meta also revealed a new AI model called “LLaMA”, which aids in research on AI-driven chatbots.
As for the company X. AI Corp. and Musk, it is still unclear exactly what he plans to do with the venture. It could be anything from providing AI-based customer services to advanced robotics technology. But the major implications of advanced artificial intelligence are felt deeply amongst tech companies, which will ensure a close eye on the venture in the coming years.
