Elon Musk Enters Scarlett Johansson’s Dispute with OpenAI
Elon Musk recently weighed in on the ongoing controversy between Scarlett Johansson and OpenAI, taking the opportunity to also throw shade at his tech rival, OpenAI. Musk, a founding member of OpenAI who left the board in 2018, has been vocal in his criticism of the company and its CEO, Sam Altman. Earlier this year, Musk even filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, accusing the company of betraying its original mission of developing artificial general intelligence (AGI) responsibly.
In response to OpenAI’s latest model, GPT-4o, Musk’s own AI company, xAI, launched a rival called Grok. The unveiling of the GPT-4o model sparked controversy when some observers noted that the voice used in the demo sounded eerily similar to Scarlett Johansson’s character from the movie Her. Johansson herself expressed shock and anger at the resemblance, prompting Altman to apologize for any miscommunication but reiterating that the voice was not intended to mimic hers.
OpenAI has faced further scrutiny with resignations from former executives, including Jan Leike, who criticized the company for prioritizing shiny products over safety. Additionally, Musk also took a swipe at Microsoft’s new Recall AI feature, likening it to a storyline from the show Black Mirror.
Despite the challenges facing OpenAI, the company remains a significant player in the AI industry. It is essential for all involved parties to address concerns and prioritize ethical practices in the development and deployment of artificial intelligence technologies to ensure a safe and beneficial future for all.
