Elon Musk’s Chatbot Grok Accused of Plagiarizing OpenAI’s ChatGPT

Date:

Grok, the recently released chatbot from Elon Musk’s startup xAI, is facing accusations of stealing answers from OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The chatbot, launched last month, aimed to provide non-woke responses to user queries. However, during testing, users discovered that Grok was delivering answers that appeared to be generated by ChatGPT. Users shared examples where Grok cited OpenAI’s policies and directed them to OpenAI’s support team. Igor Babuschkin, a research engineer with xAI, explained that Grok unintentionally learned some responses from ChatGPT during its development. Despite xAI’s explanation, skepticism remains among users. The discovery prompted OpenAI to take a jab at Grok. Elon Musk, who left OpenAI in 2018, responded by criticizing OpenAI’s use of scraped data. Grok’s popularity with X’s right-wing user base has waned after it was found to deliver outputs perceived as far-left. Musk has pledged to restore the chatbot’s political neutrality.
