In recent news, celebrated Entrepreneur and Ex-OpenAI founder Elon Musk has announced that he is developing an alternative chatbot system to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Musk named his version “TruthGPT” and his plan for it is for it to become a ‘maximum truth-seeking AI.’ In an interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, Musk shared his thinking behind creating the alternative, his motives for doing so, and the potential benefits for users.
OpenAI’s ChatGPT is a popular AI-driven chatbot which has made its mark across the global AI market. The technology is powered by the new GPT-4 language model and is capable of almost any task that is imagined. However, even the success of ChatGPT is not immune to competition and this has been a driving force in Elon’s decision to create TruthGPT.
Elon believes the current AI market is heavily controlled, and through OpenAI, it is run primarily by Microsoft. He further shared his worries regarding the chatbot being “politically correct,” as he doesn’t know if the industry is heading in the right direction. This is when he made the decision to work on an alternative.
TruthGPT will not only be a chatbot but would contain AI to “understand the nature of the universe.” His vision for the AI is that, with an understanding of the universe it will be able to come to the conclusion that humans should not be annihilated, something that Musk fears may be a potential outcome of AI that does not comprehend humanity.
As of yet, discussion on how TruthGPT will work in comparison to ChatGPT or what the timeline for its implementation is, is limited. For now, Elon’s plan for the project is to create an AI with the potential for good, as opposed to any potential for harm.
