Elon Musk to Launch ‘TruthGPT’ to Challenge Microsoft-Backed ChatGPT

Date:

Billionaire Elon Musk has announced that he is developing a revolutionary Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform called “TruthGPT” to compete against Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s ChatGPT. In a Monday interview with Fox News Tucker Carlson, Musk criticized OpenAI for becoming a closed source and for-profit organisation in close ties with Microsoft, and accused Google co-founder Larry Page of lacking “AI safety” awareness.

Musk planned to conduct AI superintelligence research, and his new venture is called X.AI Corp. Located in Nevada, Musk is the sole director while Jared Birchall, a Managing Director at Musk’s family office, serves as the secretary. The entrepreneur and a group of AI specialists and industry executives have been pushing for a six-month stall in the development of AI systems more advanced than OpenAI’s GPT-4, due to potential risks to our society. Musk mentioned that AI could be misused to manipulate public opinion and has the potential to lead to mass destruction.

He also outlined that he told Former U.S. President Barack Obama to “encourage AI regulation” and is now the CEO of a social media platform which he bought for $44 billion last year, Twitter. Musk has recently suggested that the platform is currently worth less than half its acquisition price.

Microsoft has invested significantly in OpenAI, which has consequently intensified the competition between them and Google. AI is taking a prominent role in the tech industry and businesses are scrambling to attract and secure investment for research and development for their respective platforms.

Elon Musk is a highly influential entrepreneur, engineer and investor. Over the course of his career, he has gained worldwide recognition for his involvement in several groundbreaking ventures such as SpaceX, Tesla Inc, Neuralink Corporation, SolarCity Corporation and the OpenAI non-profit research organization initiative. He is a highly-innovative problem solver and has made incredible contributions to space exploration, transportation, energy and even healthcare technology. Additionally, he also leads a project to establish a city on Mars.
