Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, has announced that he plans to build a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) company to challenge OpenAI and Google. Musk revealed that he is thinking of calling the venture “TruthGPT” and that the goal would be to create an AI that is designed to uncover the truth regarding the nature of the universe and that “hopefully will do more good than harm.” Musk will be at a significant disadvantage to OpenAI and Google as he is “starting late.” He recently filed paperwork for a business called and it is assumed that the two initiatives are related.
Musk’s hopes for the advancement of AI are centered around creating a “third option” for the world that ultimately would create more good than harm. He expressed his strong concern about the potential danger posed by the advancement of AI, which is why he is such a supporter of encryption technology. Musk wants to enable users to have secure conversations and is hopeful that Twitter will be launching an optional encryption feature for Direct Messages “no later than next month.”
OpenAI was founded by Musk and is currently led by Sam Altman. However, Musk has expressed discontent with the direction of the company which ultimately led to a rift between him and Altman due to disagreements in the role of leadership. OpenAI is currently working with Microsoft to develop a for-profit business model.
In order to remain competitive, Musk stress the need to focus on developing a truth-seeking AI that will ultimately do more good than harm. The direction of the company is yet to be seen, but Musk’s ambitious venture has the potential to set the bar for Artificial Intelligence.
