Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur, expressed his belief once again that artificial intelligence (AI) will eventually replace all human jobs. This bold statement was made during his appearance at the Viva Technology conference in Paris.
Musk envisions a future where AI technology will be so advanced that humans will no longer need to work. He predicts a scenario where universal high income will be the norm, ensuring that there is no shortage of goods or services for individuals.
With his multiple roles as CEO of Tesla, founder of xAI, SpaceX, Neuralink, and owner of the social media platform X, Musk shared his perspective on the potential impact of AI advancements.
In a benign scenario, probably none of us will have a job, Musk stated. There will be universal high income… There’ll be no shortage of goods or services.
Musk acknowledged the possibility of a negative scenario arising from AI progress, emphasizing the importance of finding meaning in a world where machines can outperform humans in every task.
The question will really be one of meaning, of how… does your life have meaning? Musk questioned. That really will be the question in that benign scenario, and in the negative scenario, all bets are off where we’re in deep trouble.
The tech mogul previously highlighted the disruptive force of AI and its potential to render human jobs obsolete. He emphasized that AI could reach a point where no job is necessary, although individuals may choose to work for personal satisfaction.
It’s hard to say exactly what that moment is, but there will come a point where no job is needed, Musk explained. You can have a job if you want to have a job… but the AI will be able to do everything.
With an 80% chance of AI advancements leading to a future without jobs, Musk’s vision raises important questions about the implications of this technological progress on society as a whole. As AI continues to rapidly evolve, the impact on the workforce and human life remains a topic of significant discussion and debate.
