Elon Musk Launching AI Startup to Compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT

Date:

Elon Musk is reportedly working on launching a new artificial intelligence start-up to compete with the popular ChatGPT-maker OpenAI. According to the Financial Times, the billionaire is forming a team of AI researchers, engineers, and investors in SpaceX and Tesla Inc to help develop the business. This plan of forming a new AI firm comes weeks after Musk and a group of AI experts called for a 6-month pause in developing systems more powerful than GPT-4 developed by OpenAI.

Companies including Microsoft Corp, Alphabet Inc, and many others are pushing to incorporate AI, which is the technology behind ChatGPT, into its offerings. Though, the use of ChatGPT has triggered some issues as regulators look forward to establishing rules before it goes mainstream. Italy even banned the use of ChatGPT completely, while a European privacy watchdog created a task force to determine a common policy for AI.

It is reported that Musk has also acquired thousands of graphics processing units from the company Nvidia for his new venture. An AI business firm named X.AI Corp has been set up in Nevada and Musk is the sole director, with managing director of Musk’s family office Jared Birchall as a secretary.

The news of Musk’s plan for the AI firm is a positive sign for the world of AI technology. Though, it is important to establish clear rules and regulations to ensure the security and privacy of users and to prevent misuse of AI technology. It is also important to note that OpenAI’s GPT-4 is the leading AI framework with an almost human-level of intelligence, and the research and development in this field can reap great benefits for mankind.
