Elon Musk Launches New AI Firm to Challenge OpenAI

Date:

With the launch of AI ChatGPT, Twitter CEO Elon Musk has created a new company called X.AI. Based in Nevada, Texas, the company is headed by Musk himself and Jared Birchall, director of Musk’s family office, as secretary. On top of that, Musks authorized the sale of 100 million shares for the company. It looks like Musk is focused on building an AI firm that can take on the Microsoft-funded OpenAI.

Interestingly, Musk had initially invested $100 million in OpenAI but took his foot off the pedal. In the recent months, AI ChatGPT and GPT-4 have caused ripples throughout the world. Consequently, in March, Musk and Steve Wozniak wrote an open letter, suggesting for all AI labs to temporarily hold the training of any AI system that surpasses the might of GPT-4 for at least six months.

It was reported that in the year 2018, Musk had tried to take control of OpenAI, but was waved off by OpenAI’s CEO. It is said that he failed to make a contribution of $1 billion, despite his promise and decided to part ways with the company after investing merely $100 million in the company. This led to the formation of OpenAI’s for-profit entity so as to amass enough funds to cover the expenses. This turned out to be successful as Microsoft injected a whopping $1 billion in OpenAI. That soon earned it a $20 billion valuation, and OpenAI is now the most valuable AI-driven company in the world.

Elon Musk needs no introduction. He is the founder, CEO and lead designer of SpaceX, founder and CEO of Neuralink, co-founder of PayPal, and founder of the Boring Company. Musk has made a major impact in the field of artificial intelligence with his investments, initiatives, and business decisions. He is known for his entrepreneurial spirit and his contributions to developing advanced technology.

OpenAI, also at the front-end of artificial intelligence advancement, was co-founded in 2015 by Sam Altman. It is a non-profit research organization backed by Microsoft, which focuses on developing artificial general intelligence. OpenAI has a team of researchers and engineers and consists of several acquired startups. OpenAI’s initial primary focus was to conduct research in the field of artificial intelligence. Later, it shifted to research applications of artificial intelligence in the fields of robotics, self-driving cars and data mining.

X.Ai is the latest company added to Musk’s remarkable portfolio. Musk is determined to make a mark by developing and utilizing artificial general intelligence, without any constraints from financial interests or governmental powers.

The future of X.AI, Musk’s AI entity, is inevitably uncertain, yet it is expected to be a crucial development in the field of artificial general intelligence, making OpenAI and Musk’s initiatives a significant part revolutionizing the world of AI.
