Elon Musk, tech mogul and co-founder of Tesla and SpaceX, has announced his newest project, “TruthGPT”, as an alternative to OpenAI’s “ChatGPT”. In Fox News interview, Musk said that this alternative approach to Artificial Intelligence creation could be a safer path to prevent human destruction. While speaking about TruthGPT, he said that it will act as a “maximum truth-seeking AI”, that will try to understand the universe.
TruthGPT is Musk’s answer to the global rage of ChatGPT and GPT-4. Due to the success of these AI systems, Musk has established a new company called X.AI. Incorporated in Nevada and Texas, Musk himself is listed as the company’s only director. This company it set to promote AI in the ChatGPT era.
In March 2021, Musk and several other industry leading AI experts, including Apple Co-founder Steve Wozniak, wrote an open letter calling out to all AI labs to take a break from training powerful AI systems such as GPT-4 for at least six months. It remains to be seen if this move would create a revolutionary change in the world of AI.
Nevertheless, the invention of “TruthGPT” is a step toward the right direction and arms the industry experts with an alternative solution to mitigate the risk of human destruction. This move proved to be a great example of Musk’s vision of self-driven innovation, that could potentially lead to AI breakthroughs.
