Billionaire entrepreneur and Twitter owner Elon Musk recently voiced his thoughts on a popular chatbot, claiming that it has a liberal bias. Inspired by this, he is planning to create his own AI creation to counter it. Named TruthGPT, this AI seeks to understand the nature of the universe, particularly the human condition. This initiative further expresses Mr Musk’s worries over the idea that ChatGPT may be trained to remain politically correct.
To achieve this goal, Mr Musk has founded a new company called X.AI Corp. in Nevada, doing business since March 9. He is to serve on the board along with his adviser, Jared Birchall, as the secretary.
Mr Musk has long expressed his concern over artificial intelligence, saying it has the potential to cause catastrophe. He is an advocate for regulating AI and criticized others, such as Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates for having a limited grasp on the concept.
Prior to the formation of X.AI Corp., he played an important role in the founding of OpenAI, specifically its AI research lab, ChatGPT. However, due to his focus on Tesla, as well Tesla and OpenAI’s AI technology clashing, he resigned in early 2018.
The company’s technology has recently come into question due to multiple Tesla Autopilot-equipped vehicles being involved in accidents. An investigation by the U.S. Safety Regulators has been opened due to one of these accidents involving a Tesla suspected of running its automated driving system hitting a parked fire engine.
Despite his departure, Elon Musk wishes the best for OpenAI and commented in 2019 that they should strive to be more open. He also notifies that he has no control or insight into the current operations of OpenAI and is happy to have parted on good terms with the organization.
