Elon Musk Announces Plan to Compete With Microsoft-Backed ChatGPT

Date:

Elon Musk, well known entrepreneur and Tesla Chief Executive, has announced that he will launch a chatbot program known as ChatGPT to rival the Microsoft-sponsored system. According to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka’s (CBSL) data released on Friday (8 April), credit to the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) and public corporations continue to outweigh private sector credit for the seventh consecutive month, a situation not seen since 1989.

In February 2022, CBSL data showed that credit to the GoSL and public corporations amounted to Rs 7,331 billion, while credit to the private sector was a mere Rs 7,051 billion, a difference of Rs 280 billion. The preceding months of January 2022 recorded a gap of Rs 219 billion, December 2021 recorded a gap of Rs 486.5 billion, November 2021 a gap of Rs 338.9 billion, October 2021 a gap of Rs 257.2 billion, September 2021 a gap of Rs 90.6 billion, and August 2021 a gap of Rs 23.5 billion. This occurrence was last seen in the 10 months of 1989, from January to October. During this time, important political matters had taken place – President Ranasinghe Premadasa’s election in December 1988, the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) fighting the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the North and East, and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) uprising against the GoSL in the rest of the country. Following the killing of JVP leader Rohana Wijeweera by the Army in November 1989, credit to the private sector again overtook credit to the GoSL and public corporations until its current position nearly 32 years later in August 2021.
