Aboitiz Foundation’s Elevate AIDA program has launched an initiative to train women in AI skills in Basilan. The project aims to empower women and promote inclusive growth in the region. Led by Aboitiz Foundation President Ginggay Hontiveros-Malvar, Isabela City Mayor Sitti Djalia-Hataman, and Connected Women Co-Founder Ruth Yu-Owen, the training program targets underprivileged and underskilled women to equip them with essential digital skills for virtual work environments.
The Elevate AIDA Training Program will run for three weeks, with 100 women in Isabela City, Basilan, set to benefit from the initiative. Facilitated in partnership with Connected Women, the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), and the local government unit of Isabela City, the program aims to bridge economic disparities and promote inclusive growth by empowering women from diverse backgrounds. This includes mothers, persons with disabilities, and senior citizens.
Participants in the program will undergo specialized training in AI data annotation to prepare them for remote work and professional communication. Graduates will have the opportunity to join Connected Women’s workforce pool, providing data annotation services that can contribute to local economies and create job opportunities. The program’s success in Toledo City, Cebu, where 60 women achieved a 100% graduation rate and over half secured employment through Connected Women, serves as a testament to its effectiveness.
The initiative not only aims to enhance the digital skills of women in Basilan but also to increase their competitiveness in the job market. By providing them with the necessary tools and support to succeed in the digital age, the Elevate AIDA program seeks to empower women to drive community progress and foster sustainable economic resilience. The dedication of partners and supporters to this cause is crucial in building a future where gender equality is a daily reality.
