Electrifying Its Operations – ChatGPT Becomes World’s First Utility

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has recently become the first utility in the world and the first government entity in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to use ChatGPT technology that is supported by Microsoft. The announcement was made by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of DEWA, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer.

Through its subsidiary, Moro HUB (Data Hub Integrated Solutions LLC), DEWA will provide this highly advanced and integrated technology to its employees and customers, helping to improve and promote productivity and meet current and future needs. Al Tayer indicated that this move is in line with Dubai 10X initiatives set out by His Highness. It will contribute greatly to enriching Dubai into a digital future with a digital utility that is acclaimed as the first to use an autonomous system that is completely independent of renewable energy and storage.

Additionally, Al Tayer announced the extension of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital services as part of the digital arms of DEWA. Microsoft UAE’s general manager, Naim Yazbeck, applauds this venture and looks forward to further exploring and leveraging the highest cutting edge technologies to enhance DEWA’s services and customer experience.

DEWA is the Government of Dubai’s organization for Electricity and Water. Established in 1992, the entity is devoted to providing a safe and reliable supply of electricity and water to all its customers and to ensure that the services are provided in a modern framework and according to the best international standards.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer has been serving as the Managing Director and CEO of DEWA since November 2005. Al Tayer is an Emirati and graduate from the Higher College of Technology in Abu Dhabi who holds a Masters degree from Cranfield University in the UK. He had previously tagged on various positions of higher rank within government entities here in the Emirates such as undersecretary for the Ministry of Transport in Dubai, Commissioner for the Aweer Power Station, and generated several projects such as the Dubai Maritime City, which is today a globally renowned icon.

ChatGPT, is an AI-powered chatbot which leverages the transformational approach in natural language processing, to interact with customers. It allows customers to avail services from DEWA in a convenient and hassle-free manner. In order to use ChatGPT, customers need to open the DEWA website and click on the ChatGPT contact option. The conversation with the bots is a mix of text, images, and videos, making it an easier and more interactive experience.

Microsoft UAE is contributes to the Dubai 10X Initiative, with the company’s mission to empower every person and organization to achieve more. It provides unparalleled access to the most comprehensive cloud platform in the region and has introduced technologies such as AI and the Internet of Things (IoT), helping to create modern experiences for customers both today and in the future.

This move by DEWA is an important step towards achieving efficient services for customers and promoting Dubai to become an electronic and digital leader.
