Dubai Solidifies Its Position as a Global Tech Hub with the Dubai Assembly for Generative AI
Dubai, a key player in the field of technology innovation, is further enhancing its status as a global hub for technological advancements. The emirate provides a fertile ground for the growth and development of future-oriented technologies. In line with this, the Dubai Assembly for Generative AI was recently held at the prestigious Museum of the Future and AREA 2071 in Emirates Towers. This event reflects Dubai’s growing prominence on the global technology landscape.
Hosted by the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), the assembly saw the participation of over 2,200 attendees, including renowned tech powerhouses and consultancies like Microsoft, Meta, IBM, PwC, Deloitte, SAP, Nokia, and McKinsey, among others.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of The Executive Council, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dubai Future Foundation, highlighted the significance of artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping the future. He emphasized Dubai’s commitment to be at the forefront of this transformative era. By fostering partnerships between governments and businesses, Dubai is striving to become a global leader in AI and other emerging technologies. Sheikh Hamdan lauded Dubai’s contribution to scientific and technological progress and the launch of alliances that aim to include everyone in building the future of humanity.
During the assembly, the Dubai Future Foundation announced the establishment of the Dubai Generative AI Alliance, a collaboration of global tech companies. This alliance aims to accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies in Dubai and facilitate the development of one of the world’s most advanced and effective tech-enabled governments. His Excellency Khalfan Belhoul, the CEO of DFF, urged companies and innovators to join this alliance.
In addition, Digital Dubai unveiled a groundbreaking initiative called Dubai AI. This generative AI-powered digital platform will serve as a city-wide concierge, providing comprehensive information and services related to health, entertainment, business, and education. It will cater to the needs of both residents and visitors across Dubai, cementing the city’s reputation as a leading tech-driven metropolis.
The Dubai Assembly for Generative AI not only featured major announcements and keynotes from global AI experts but also showcased the transformative potential of generative AI in various domains. One of the highlights was the Human x AI Music Show, where an 11-year-old Emirati pianist performed alongside advanced AI, creating melodies that were both familiar and otherworldly. The performance was accompanied by real-time visual art, creating a captivating multidimensional experience.
Omar Sultan Al Olama, the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy & Remote Work Applications, emphasized the need for a new approach to AI governance. He highlighted the UAE’s commitment to exploring opportunities in generative AI and expanding its applications to benefit humanity. Experts from PwC, Deloitte, and McKinsey discussed the potential impact of generative AI on various sectors, including automation in the workplace, climate action, drug discovery, and the banking industry, which could generate up to $400 billion in additional revenue.
The Dubai Assembly for Generative AI showcased Dubai’s determination to lead the way in adopting and harnessing the power of AI. With its vibrant ecosystem and collaborative spirit, the emirate is set to continue its journey as a global tech hub, driving innovation and creating a better future for all.
