Doha, Qatar: The First Doha Data Forum, held under the patronage of H E Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, kicked off yesterday with the aim of unlocking Qatar’s strategic value through comprehensive data systems. The forum, hosted by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) in collaboration with national and international partners, seeks to enhance data-driven decision-making processes and strengthen inclusiveness in Qatar.
In his opening remarks, PSA President Dr. Saleh bin Mohammad Al Nabit emphasized the strategic value of official data and statistics, highlighting their importance as a key component of infrastructure for planning and decision-making. He also stressed the need to maximize the value of data by exploring new collection methods and ensuring effective analysis, interpretation, and dissemination. The forum aligns with the recommendations of the United Nations Statistical Commission and aims to support Qatar’s digital transformation process by providing accurate and reliable data.
Addressing the gathering through a recorded speech, Dr. Stefan Schweinfest, the Director of the United Nations Statistics Division, highlighted the power of data in supporting significant transformations and praised the forum as a crucial step toward modernizing Qatar’s official statistical system. Dr. Dominik Rozkrut, the President of the International Association for Official Statistics, emphasized the importance of data and statistics in the era of digital transformation and artificial intelligence, particularly in the field of official statistics.
The two-day forum covers various topics through panel discussions, including the value of data and statistics in planning sustainable development, data and technology infrastructure, the use of analytics and visualization, data governance, policy frameworks, and open data sharing. The aim is to promote an innovative culture and provide data-based solutions to address national challenges across sectors.
