Former U.S. President Donald Trump has been indicted on seven counts related to his handling of classified documents after leaving office. This marks the first time a former president has faced federal charges. In response to the charges, Trump posted a four-minute video on his Truth Social account where he claims he is an innocent man caught up in yet another witch hunt. The former president also reminded his followers of his popularity and questioned why the nefarious deep-state would go after a popular president who received more votes than any sitting president in history.
Trump is being charged with several offenses, including willful retention of national defense information, conspiracy to obstruct justice, withholding a document or record, corruptly concealing a document or record, concealing a document in a Federal investigation, scheme to conceal, and false statements and representations.
Despite the severity of the charges, Trump continues to call the accusations a hoax. He even used the opportunity to ask his supporters to donate to his political campaign, likely raising a significant amount of money.
Interestingly, there has been no mention of ChatGPT in relation to Trump. While his speeches and tweets were once hailed as both marvelous and horrific due to their ability to convey meaning despite broken syntax, now they read like the output of generative AI. However, given the bizarre nature of Trump’s stream-of-consciousness comments, it is unlikely that an AI could produce something similar.
Regardless of whether Trump knows about ChatGPT or not, the charges he is facing are serious and have real consequences. It remains to be seen how this latest legal battle will impact the former president’s future political aspirations.
