Digital Dubai has unveiled ‘Dubai AI’, an innovative AI-powered city concierge, at the Dubai Assembly for Generative AI. The launch event took place at the Museum of the Future Area and was attended by Matar Al Hemeiri, the Chief Executive of Digital Dubai Government Establishment. Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, the launch marked a significant step towards a comprehensive digital platform that will provide information and services to residents and visitors across the city.
During his keynote speech titled ‘Digital Dubai: A City-Level AI Product’, Al Hemeiri highlighted that the platform will cover various sectors such as health, entertainment, business, and education. The aim is to transform the way services are delivered by focusing on enablement and regulations, rather than directly operating different services and systems.
One of the panel discussions at the event addressed existential questions for government in relation to AI. Dr Moza Suwaidan, Chief Executive of Digital Applications and Platforms Sector at Digital Dubai Government Establishment, emphasized that the way services are offered will change significantly with the introduction of AI technologies. However, she also acknowledged concerns regarding privacy and security, urging technology producers, governments, and consumers to work together to address these issues.
Christian Gleich, the Global Head of Emerging Tech Governance Strategy at the European Blockchain Association, emphasized the importance of addressing emerging technologies collectively. He praised the UAE’s approach to regulating technologies like tokenization, blockchain, and AI, pointing out that these technologies are evolving together and should be considered in a holistic manner.
Another keynote speech titled ‘Synthetic Data: The Next Wave of Privacy Solutions’ highlighted the use of synthetic data as a solution to address privacy concerns in AI applications. Younus Al Nasser, Chief Executive of Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment, explained how synthetic data offers a balance between privacy and data quality, playing a pivotal role in digital transformation projects.
