Developers are always on the lookout of tools to make their lives easier. With ChatGPT, builders can generate code, craft emails, and even offer guidance on complex topics. With such an expansive range of capabilities, however, it is not always easy to understand the instructions. ChatAWS is a ChatGPT plugin which simplifies the process of deploying AWS resources through chat interactions. Allowing users to easily and quickly create websites, Lambda functions, and more, ChatAWS streamlines the process, making it more accessible and easier to understand.
This article takes you through building the plugin, beginning with the system prompt, which is essential for ChatGPT to understand how to respond to user prompts. Gradually, more details were added to the prompt, such as which programming languages to use, the output format, and a friendly reminder from Yann LeCun not to make any errors. Then, an OpenAPI file provided an interface for ChatGPT to understand the request, including inputs for creating a Lambda function and uploading a file to S3. The plugin code, written using the Flask library, provided the bridge for ChatGPT to invoke API calls based on the user prompt. Afterwards, ChatAWS was packaged into a Docker container and deployed to AWS with configuration steps.
Once the plugin was built, example prompts were used to test the plugin, including requests to create a website, a Lambda function to process text, and convert it to speech. These were all possible with ChatAWS, and they showed the potential applications of generative AI. This post is just a simple prototype and there are always ways to further improve upon it.
