Denmark’s Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, has used OpenAI’s chatbot ChatGPT to highlight the risks of artificial intelligence. During her speech at the Danish parliament, Frederiksen read out a section written by ChatGPT to demonstrate the scale of the technology. Despite some errors in punctuation and a lack of specificity regarding the government’s work programme, the Prime Minister said that she found the experience of using the chatbot to be both fascinating and terrifying. She expressed concerns about the ability of generative AI tools to write essays, poems and entire conversations in response to prompts, indicating that this could damage the social skills of young people. Meanwhile, politicians in Europe are concerned about the potential spread of disinformation, racist narratives and misleading advertising through these chatbots. Italy has even banned ChatGPT due to concerns over data privacy, while the EU is now focusing on regulating the use of generative AI technology.
