Dashlane, a password management provider, has recently released Dashlane Confidential SSO in public beta. This single sign-on (SSO) solution uses AWS Nitro Enclaves’ isolated virtual machines to create a confidential computing environment, allowing employees to securely store vault keys that are inaccessible to external parties. This move is the first of its kind within the password management space and demonstrates the use of Confidential Computing to secure sensitive data assets in an SSO process.
Dashlane’s chief technology officer, Frederic Rivain, said that this confidential computing technology helps the company to differentiate itself from other SSO providers and enable a seamless integration with any SAML 2.0 identity provider. This announcement follows the security breach with competitor LastPass which gained unauthorized access to a backup of customer vault data and raised alarms about the safety of password management providers.
By storing data in a trusted execution environment (TEE), Dashlane is able to protect customers against any potential breaches. According to Acumen Research and Consulting researchers, the password management market is anticipated to grow by 2030 to a value of $9.4 billion (up from the current $1.5 billion). Dashlane’s primary competitors are 1Password and LastPass.
1Password offers an encrypted password management solution with SSO and the option to log in via an account passkey or a secret key. LastPass also offers a similar encrypted password management solution while adding biometrics, push notifications, or one-time passcodes to its authenticator app for iOS and Android in place of the master password.
Dashlane’s confidential computing features set themselves apart from its competitors. The company will host a summit on July 11-12 in San Francisco, including top executives, to discuss how AI investments can be incorporated and optimized for success.
