Bengal BJP Leader Seeks CBI Probe Into Alleged AI Manipulated Video
A new development in the Sandeshkhali incident has sparked a fierce dispute between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The controversy erupted when the TMC claimed that a ‘sting video’ exposed the BJP’s attempt to tarnish their image regarding the Sandeshkhali incident. BJP leader Gangadhar Kayl, reportedly featured in the video, quickly responded by lodging a complaint with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), alleging that the video was doctored using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.
The video supposedly shows the BJP leader confessing that there were no instances of rape or sexual harassment and that women were coerced into making false accusations under the instruction of senior party member Suvendu Adhikari. Mr. Kayl’s complaint argued that his facial features and voice were manipulated via AI to create the video with the intention of deceiving the public and disrupting the ongoing investigations.
In his appeal to the CBI, Mr. Kayl accused Trinamool’s Abhishek Banerjee of orchestrating a plot to shield the actual culprits of the Sandeshkhali incident. He pointed out discrepancies in the video, including audio-video desynchronization, obscured facial features, and poor audio quality, suggesting deliberate tampering.
The BJP leader urged the CBI to conduct a thorough investigation into the video footage. The emergence of the video coincided with allegations of sexual harassment leveled against West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose by a temporary employee of the Raj Bhavan. Earlier, women from Sandeshkhali had accused TMC leader Shahjahan and his associates of rape and sexual harassment, leading to significant protests by the Bengal BJP and turning it into a major national political issue ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also criticized the Trinamool Congress and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing them of shielding the accused leader, who was eventually apprehended in February after evading authorities for over 50 days.
The latest twist in the Sandeshkhali saga has intensified the political tensions in West Bengal, with both parties exchanging accusations and counterclaims. The authenticity of the ‘sting video’ remains a contentious issue, with the BJP seeking a thorough investigation to uncover the truth behind the alleged manipulation through AI technology.
