With the race towards leveraging advanced artificial intelligence progressing rapidly, both powerhouse real estate companies Redfin and Zillow have debuted separate chatbot programs using AI technology ChatGPT.
The plugins give potential customers the opportunity to enter detailed requests written in conversational language and receive listings that meet the criteria. Examples given are phrases such as “show me three-bedroom houses with finished basements in Dallas, Texas for under $650,000.” The AI will then analyze the parameters and return matching listings.
Zillow’s announcement took place on Tuesday, and the feature is currently only available in its alpha phase — a testing phase only accessible to those granted access from ChatGPT. This plugin is part of their long-term initiative to create a “super app” that can manage all real estate needs including buying, selling, renting, and financing.
Redfin announced their plugin on Wednesday, and aim to give customers easier searches that go beyond whats already available on their website and app. Redfin’s Vice President of Product, Ariel Dos Santos, mentions how their AI plugin will put listings in front of potential buyers that might not have been noticed by a map-based search.
As interest in the AI sector began to rise due to OpenAI making their ChatGPT available last year, Microsoft and Google responded by introducing their own competitors. Zillow CEO, Rich Barton, claims these new technologies are as momentous as the introduction of Windows and touch screens.
These new AI-powered features from both Zillow and Redfin will give customers an innovative and advanced way to search for potential real estate. Moving forward, the future is bright for customers who seek a smooth and efficient search, as well as the companies that have developed and implemented these AI-based plugins.
