Coinbase Executive Uncovers ChatGPT Exploit

Date:

Coinbase’s Chief of Business Operations, Conor Grogan, made a remarkable announcement recently. He tweeted a snapshot of results from the ChatGPT artificial intelligence application, which predicted a 15% chance that Bitcoin would fall to irrelevance in the year 2035, with a 99.99% plunge in valued. Further, ChatGPT prognosticated a 20% risk of Ether becoming insignificant and dropping close to zero by 2035, and it had slightly greater surety of Litecoin and Dogecoin’s values dropping to a near-zero figure, assigning odds of 35% and 45%, respectively.

The ChatGPT application uses natural language processing to respond to prompts. Grogan used this technology to assign probabilities to a variety of cryptocurency forecasts, as well as predictions on topics such as AI’s influence on humans and if aliens have ever visited Earth. This particular prediction of extraterrestrial presense was given a 10% chance.

Though ChatGPT is widely used for making cryptocurrency investment decisions, its predictions cannot be taken as absolute truths due to the nature of their probabilities. Grogan determined that the tool was generally bullish on Bitcoin, compared to its more skeptical views of other digital assets. As an influential user of the tool, he provided others with a script to replicate the same prompt that he used to generate the tables.

Conor Grogan is the Chief of Business Operations at Coinbase. A financial services company, Coinbase offers digital currency wallets, merchant services, accounting, and other software solutions to customers. Founded in 2012 by Brian Armstrong and Fred Ehrsam, Coinbase has become one of the most prominent players in the cryptocurrency exchange sector, and is valued at over $8 billion USD.

His recent “jailbreak” discovery sparked discussion around the application’s security, as well as the uncertainty regarding the accuracy of its predictions.
